A DENTON schoolgirl is officially well read after winning a borough-wide competition
More than 1,800 children took part in the Tameside Summer Reading Challenge this year.

And nine-year-old Ruby Bowe came out on top, winning top prize – including a karaoke machine with microphones, disco lights, a disco ball and a selection of books.
“I can’t wait to use my prize with my friends”, she said, while also saying she will be proudly showing off her Summer Reading Challenge medal and certificate at school.
Tameside libraries invited children to discover the joy of reading through the annual challenge, which this year had a ‘read to the beat’ theme.
Entrants read six library books over the summer, collecting stickers and rewards along the way.
Everyone who completed the challenge by September 19 was entered into a prize draw.
Tameside Council’s executive member for lifelong learning and culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “The Summer Reading Challenge does a fantastic job encouraging a love of reading and books, specifically outside of school.
“Huge congratulations to Ruby, who went above and beyond, reading more than six books during the summer.
“Her dedication paid off when she was selected as the lucky prize winner!”
