TAMESIDE residents are being invited to come together and celebrate the borough’s diverse cultures at a free community event.
The Sharing Cultures event is being held at the end of National Hate Crime Awareness Week, which runs from October 10 to 17.
It will take place at the Community Hall at Ashton Central Mosque on Hillgate Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, on Saturday, October 17, from 1pm to 5pm.
Community organisations representing different cultures will have stalls showcasing their traditions, crafts and activities, giving visitors the chance to learn more about the communities around them.
The event is open to people of all ages and will feature free craft activities, face painting and refreshments.

There will also be a dance performance from members of the Ukrainian community at 3pm.
The event has been organised by Tameside Council’s Community Safety Team in collaboration with Tameside Health Group (ACM).
Councillor Stephen Homer, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Towns Transport and Connectivity, said: “We’re really excited for this year’s Sharing Cultures event. Last year’s event was a great success and everyone who attended found it valuable and really enjoyed the day.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to bring together people from a wide range of backgrounds and celebrate the rich diversity within Tameside while also promoting understanding, inclusion, and harmony.”
The local authority is encouraging residents to drop in during the afternoon, meet local community groups and discover more about the different cultures represented across Tameside.
