Award-winning independent films coming to big screen in Mossley

FILM fans in Mossley will be able to enjoy a selection of award-winning independent movies on the big screen – without having to travel into Manchester.

The Vale is launching a new six-month film programme later this month, bringing acclaimed independent cinema to its 90-seat digital theatre.

The series gets under way on Wednesday, October 21, with British feel-good film I Swear.

The remaining five films are being kept under wraps for now, with details set to be announced on The Vale’s website later this month.

Based on a true story, I Swear follows Scottish teenager John Davidson, who was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome in the 1980s at a time when the condition was little known and widely misunderstood.

I Swear, starring local actress Maxine Peake, is coming to a big screen in Tameside.

His life begins to fall apart before a chance encounter with an old friend puts him on a new path and kickstarts a remarkable journey.

Robert Aramayo, known for Game of Thrones, gives a BAFTA-winning performance as John, alongside a supporting cast including Maxine Peake.

Johnny Clifford, programming manager at The Vale, said: “This funding has enabled us to bring some of the very best in current independent cinema to local audiences, starting with feelgood film I Swear.

“The programme aims to give local people the chance to see award-winning independent cinema on the big screen without travelling into Manchester.

“Our 90-seat digital theatre, boasts Dolby 7.1 surround sound, a large format screen and a fully stocked bar. It’s a great local space to catch a movie and we know that each of the six monthly screenings will be an enjoyable and sociable community event.”
