COMMUNITY groups in Tameside are being invited to apply for grants of up to £500 to help fund projects aimed at tackling hate crime and bringing local communities together.
The funding is available ahead of Greater Manchester Hate Crime Awareness Week, which will run from February 1 to 7, 2027.
Tameside Council’s Community Safety Team is inviting local organisations to put forward ideas for activities that raise awareness of hate crime, encourage people to report incidents and provide support to victims.
Projects must take place in Tameside, benefit local residents and primarily be delivered during Hate Crime Awareness Week.
The grants are funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and can be used for a wide range of community activities.
Organisations applying for funding are being asked to consider six priorities set out in the Greater Manchester Hate Crime Plan.
These include improving education around hate crime, preventing incidents through early intervention, bringing communities together, increasing awareness of hate crime and its consequences, building confidence to report incidents and improving support for victims.

Councillor Stephen Homer, Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, said: “We’re pleased to once again offer this funding to Tameside’s community groups that are passionate about making a positive difference in regard to hate crime and embracing our diversity, we have seen some great results in previous years.
“These grants provide an opportunity for organisations to create meaningful activities that raise awareness, encourage people to seek support and help build understanding between different communities. We’re aiming to ensure Tameside remains a welcoming place for everyone. So, if this is relevant to you, please do get involved.”
The funding is open to community organisations looking to run activities during the awareness week, with groups encouraged to put forward ideas that could make a difference in their local area.
Information about the funding is also available through Action Together’s funding website.
Organisations who want a paper copy of the application or help filling it out, including support developing ideas, can contact Sue Moorcroft, Community Safety Partnerships Officer, at sue.moorcroft@tameside.gov.uk
