A RECORD number of Tameside residents turned out for the borough’s latest jobs fair, where hundreds of vacancies and training opportunities were on offer.
Some 1,170 people attended the recent Autumn Jobs Fair at Dukinfield Town Hall, making it the biggest event of its kind in Tameside to date.
More than 40 employers and 20 training and support providers were on hand to speak directly with residents about job vacancies, career opportunities and routes into work.
The free drop-in event, held on September 23, was organised by Tameside Council’s Employment and Skills Team and sponsored by Northern Marking.
Employers taking part included Tameside and Glossop NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester Airport, Greater Manchester Pension Fund, the Army Royal Artillery and PureGym.
Tameside Council teams also attended alongside training providers including Mantra Learning, Construction Skills Academy and Tameside College.
With hundreds of vacancies available, residents had the chance to meet employers face-to-face and apply for full-time and part-time roles on the day.
For some visitors, the event also offered the chance to discover employers and career paths they may not previously have considered.
Advice was available throughout the day for those looking for additional support with their job search, including help with CVs, applications and interview preparation.
Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Councillor Leanne Feeley, said: “It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout at this year’s Autumn Jobs Fair and great to have received such positive feedback from both residents and employers.
“These events play an important role in connecting local people with jobs, skills and support, helping residents take the next step in their careers while enabling employers to recruit talented local people.
“I would like to thank everyone who attended and organised the day for helping to make this our most successful jobs fair yet.”
The jobs fair is held twice a year, with the next event scheduled to take place in Spring 2027. In the meantime, employment and training support is available through Tameside Council’s Employment and Skills service.
