Transformational gift enhances women’s health services at Tameside Hospital

A £165,000 donation from the League of Friends of Tameside Hospital has helped transform women’s health services at Tameside Hospital.

The hospital’s Women’s Health Unit has relocated to the Yellow Suite, where new modern procedure rooms and clinic spaces have been created.

The major upgrade forms part of a £500,000 investment in women’s health services, with the Trust funding the remaining balance from a £1.2 million funding pot for improvements.

The League of Friends’ £165,000 contribution was made possible through the legacy of Mary Goodliffe, who volunteered with the organisation.

The move to the Yellow Suite has created a calm and comfortable environment for women accessing care, with dedicated areas for gynaecology and maternity patients designed to improve privacy and comfort.

The new facilities will also allow clinical teams to carry out more procedures outside of surgical theatres, helping to reduce waiting times.

The space will additionally provide increased training opportunities for the next generation of consultants and nursing staff.

Zoe Turner, Divisional Director of Surgery, Women and Children’s, said: “This project represents a truly exciting moment for women’s services.

“The Yellow Suite gives us the modern, purpose-designed environment our patients deserve – somewhere that feels calm, private, and reassuring from the moment people walk through the door.

“It will help us offer more treatments more quickly, support families during some of the most important moments of their lives and create a fantastic space for training the clinicians of the future.

“We are deeply grateful for the generosity that has made this possible.”

Emily Whelan, Charity Manager at Tameside & Glossop NHS Charity, said: “Mary Goodliffe’s legacy, shared so generously by the League of Friends of Tameside Hospital, will have a lasting and meaningful impact on women and families across our community.

“This gift is creating a space where care will be safer, kinder and more personalised for years to come.

“We cannot thank the League and Mary’s family enough for enabling such an inspiring improvement for the Tameside community.”

The project forms part of the charity’s Everyone Matters Fund, which supports initiatives aimed at improving patient experience, staff wellbeing and the delivery of compassionate, high-quality care.

The refurbished Yellow Suite will now provide dedicated modern facilities for women receiving routine and urgent treatments at Tameside Hospital.
