RESIDENTS could see changes to the support available to help them pay their council tax under proposals being put out for consultation by Tameside Council.
The Council Tax Support scheme helps eligible low-income households with their council tax bills.
Proposed changes include increased support for carers and disabled children, alongside measures intended to strengthen work incentives.
The scheme would continue to disregard several elements of Universal Credit, child benefits, disability benefits and bereavement support payments when calculating eligibility. War pensioners would also continue to be protected.
The consultation is now open and runs until Sunday, November 29.
Residents, community organisations and partner agencies are being asked to comment on the proposals and their potential impact.

The current revised income-banded scheme has been in place for the past two years. The council says it invested £18.5 million in the scheme at the start of this year.
Councillor Hugh Roderick, Executive Member for Finance and Resources, said: “Council Tax Support provides important financial support for thousands of people across our borough.
“We need to make sure the scheme continues to work for everyone; that’s why we’re asking residents to help us make sure it remains focused on those who need support most. Please make sure you have your say and help us make sure we are supporting people through difficult times and helping them get back on their feet.”
The proposals will be considered by Full Council following the consultation, with any changes due to take effect from April 2027.
