FANCY a bratwurst, a beer and a taste of Germany without leaving Denton?
Residents are being invited to a free Oktoberfest Taster Night where they can find out more about the town’s links with Germany and France – with food, music and a few steins thrown in for good measure.
Denton Town Twinning Association is hosting the evening on Monday, September 14, giving residents the chance to meet people involved in Denton’s international connections and discover what town twinning is actually all about.
There will be free German food, beer and music at a popular Denton pub, with the event offering a relaxed introduction to the town’s twinning relationships with Kierspe in Germany and Montigny-le-Bretonneux in France.
And the best bit? It won’t cost you a pfennig.
Denton has been twinned with Montigny since 1992 and Kierspe since 2012, with thousands of people travelling between the three towns over the years.
Those links have led to cultural, educational and musical exchanges, bringing residents together and providing opportunities to experience life in other countries.
Councillor George Newton, Chair of Denton Town Twinning Association, said: “A lot of people think town twinning is about road signs or the EU – it absolutely isn’t. It’s about creating opportunities for local people, learning new skills, discovering new cultures and having fun along the way.
“Always been curious about town twinning? Come along, grab a beer and a bratwurst and find out what it’s all about.”
The evening is also a chance for anyone who has ever wondered what happens behind those town-twinning signs to find out, and perhaps raise a glass to a little international friendship while they’re there.
The taster night comes ahead of another major date in Denton’s twinning calendar, with visitors from Kierspe due to arrive in November to experience the town’s Bonfire Night celebrations.
Places for the Oktoberfest event are limited, so residents will need to register for a free ticket in advance.
