THE dedication of students, teachers, support staff and families has been praised by the head of Laurus Ryecroft as pupils at the Droylsden school celebrated on GCSE results day.
A third of all GCSEs taken by pupils at the Lumb Lane school were awarded grades 7 or above, while three quarters of students secured a pass in both English and maths.
More than half of students – 54 per cent – achieved a strong pass of grade 5 or above in both subjects, with the school saying the results place its students historically well above national averages.
There were also some standout individual performances, including Amy, who achieved the highest possible grade of 9 in every one of her GCSEs.
It was not just Year 11 students celebrating on results day.
Year 9 pupils who had taken their Spanish GCSE early also performed strongly, with 32 per cent achieving grade 7 or above and 66 per cent securing grade 5 or above. Thirteen students achieved the top grade of 9.

They have consistently put the work in, and it is wonderful to talk to so many students today who are excited about their next steps, whether that is with us at Laurus Ryecroft Sixth Form or studying elsewhere.
“These fantastic results are a testament to their dedication, as well as the teachers, support staff, parents and carers who went above and beyond to support them.”

Many of the Year 11 students will now move on to the next stage of their education, with some continuing at Laurus Ryecroft Sixth Form and others pursuing opportunities elsewhere.
