Local writers take centre stage at Droylsden Little Theatre

New writing and local talent will be in the spotlight as Droylsden Little Theatre presents “Raise Voices”, a showcase of four original plays written by emerging playwrights from the area.

Running for just three performances from Thursday, August 20, to Saturday, August 22, the production will feature four world premieres from graduates of Guide Bridge Theatre’s Fresh Voices programme, who are now resident writers with DLT’s Mightier Than The Sword group.

The evening promises a mix of comedy, drama and heartfelt storytelling, with each play bringing a unique perspective to the stage.

Take Me to Your Leader by Anna Foden follows a routine school run that takes an unexpected turn when two mums encounter a stranded alien and find themselves heading to IKEA in a comedy packed with humour and warmth.

In Bears Will Be Bears, Ashleigh Jones explores the aftermath of a shocking bear attack through a gripping inquest that examines questions of blame, responsibility and survival.

The Librarian, written by Michelle Lockwood, tells the story of Patricia, who discovers that stepping outside her comfort zone could help her rewrite her future.

Meanwhile, Date Night by Linda Downs offers a touching and uplifting look at family, love, loss and the unexpected moments that help people heal.

Organisers say the production is an opportunity to celebrate new voices in theatre while showcasing the wealth of creative talent emerging from the local area.

“Raise Voices” will be staged at Droylsden Little Theatre, Castle Close, Droylsden, from Thursday, August 20, to Saturday, August 22. Tickets are available through the theatre’s box office.
