And when the town’s Market Square is completed, expect bigger and better.
People packed into Bow Street and Market Street, around the indoor hall, for the first event on Sunday, July 19.
A total of 63 stalls selling everything from coasters to sausage rolls left everyone delighted at what was on offer.
And The Correspondent understands that once the neighbouring area is finished, that number will rise to almost 100.
It was not all food and things to serve drinks on. Children could get their faces painted and take part in sand art sessions.
A singer also provided musical accompaniment as there was not a seat to be found going spare.
Independent Street, the award-winning market operator behind the popular monthly artisan market at Glossop’s Old Market Hall, brought its successful formula to Ashton in partnership with Tameside Council.
The initiative forms part of a collaboration with the authority to bring new events into Ashton and showcase the Market Square, which is approaching completion.
