Mossley church group crafts delightful donation with afternoon tea

A MOSSLEY church group has crafted a marvellous four-figure donation for a breast cancer charity with an afternoon tea.

The knitting and crochet section at St Joseph’s, on Argyle Street, was granted access to the meeting room by Father Jim Clarke for the event.

The knit and crochet group at Mossley’s St Joseph’s Church raised a four-figure sum for breast cancer research courtesy of an afternoon tea.

And it proved a huge hit with other parishioners, as well as family and friends, joining them after a Saturday Vigil Mass.

They also enjoyed a tombola stall and a raffle, with many prizes kindly donated by nine local shops around Mossley, including vouchers for everything ranging from a meal to meat, flowers and beauty treatments.

The money raised at the Saturday, June 20 event produced a total which reached an amazing £1,142.50 that has gone towards breast cancer research.

Shops from around Mossley donated prizes to the event.

Mary Jones, who runs the knit and crochet group, said: “We would like to thank all who contributed prizes, because these prizes helped to boost our grand total.

“Father Jim and I would also like to thank two very special children, Liberty Leigh and Oliver Wibberley, for selling cakes on their street and managed to raise £100.

“I was very emotional when I found out how much we had made and couldn’t thank Father Jim and the ladies from the knit and crochet group enough, for helping organise the day, which we had been planning for months, and a big thanks, of course, to everyone for coming and supporting such a great  cause in breast cancer research.”
