Tameside musical talent to take centre stage in charity showcase at The Lowry

SOME OF Tameside’s finest musical theatre performers will take to the stage las an annual charity showcase returns to The Lowry in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The much-loved event, now in its 35th year, will be held on Sunday, July 19, bringing together performers from seven amateur musical theatre societies across Greater Manchester for an evening celebrating some of the greatest songs from the West End and Broadway.

Some of Tameside’s top musical theatre talent will take to the stage at The Lowry.

Representing Tameside are Hyde Musical Society and Mossley Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (MAODS) with each group showcasing local talent in support of a worthy cause.

They will be joined by All Saints Musical Productions, Horwich Amateur Theatre Society (HATS), South Manchester AOS, Romiley Operatic Society and Sale and Altrincham Musical Theatre (SAMT).

The annual showcase first began in 1991 and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities over the years, including The Christie, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, local hospices and Prevent Breast Cancer.

This year’s chosen charity is the Alzheimer’s Society, with every penny raised through ticket sales going directly towards supporting people living with dementia and funding vital research.

Simon Pickup, the concert’s Musical Director, said: “This charity showcase first started back in 1991, and over the years, we’ve raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities such as The Christie, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, local hospices, Prevent Breast Cancer amongst others.

“This year the chosen charity is the Alzheimer’s Society. Alzheimer’s and dementia have impacted almost many of our members in some way, caring for family members and loved ones.

“This project is incredibly close to all our hearts. There is nothing more rewarding than doing what we love on stage, knowing that all the proceeds from the ticket sales go directly to supporting the vital care services and research from the Alzheimer’s Society.”

The one-night-only performance promises an evening of well-known musical theatre favourites while supporting a cause that has touched many families across the region.
