Hundreds turn out as Denton marks Armed Forces Day

HUNDREDS of people gathered in Victoria Park for Denton’s annual Armed Forces Day celebrations.

Veterans, serving personnel, families and residents came together for an afternoon of entertainment and recognition.

The event, held on Saturday, June 27, featured live music, dance performances and a host of free activities designed to entertain all ages.

Children and families enjoyed attractions including inflatable axe throwing, face painting, arts and crafts, while community organisations and support services were on hand throughout the day to offer advice and information to veterans and members of the Armed Forces community.

The annual event is one of the borough’s key opportunities to recognise the contribution of serving personnel, veterans and their families, while also highlighting the support available locally.

The borough’s three MPs, local councillors and the High Sheriff of Greater Manchester were among those in attendance.

Councillor Hugh Roderick, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Finance and Resources and Armed Forces Champion, said: “Once again, Armed Forces Day delivered an incredible community event, giving us the opportunity to recognise and thank our Armed Forces.

“It was fantastic to see such an amazing turnout, with residents enjoying everything on offer. The atmosphere was wonderful, and as always, our teams did a brilliant job organising activities and entertainment for all generations.”

Veterans were also encouraged to register with Tameside Armed Services Community (TASC) to keep up to date with local events, support services and opportunities available.
