SIX community groups from North Tameside have been awarded funding after residents came together to decide which projects should receive support.
The latest Tameside Community Safety community grants event was held at Broadoak & Smallshaw Community Centre.
It focused on the north neighbourhood area, covering the whole of Ashton-under-Lyne.
Residents heard presentations from each group before voting on which projects they felt should receive funding. The process was designed to give communities a direct say while helping group members develop confidence and communication skills.
The successful groups were Dipak Distri Vision of Light Dementia Group; North Tameside District Scouts; Broadoak & Smallshaw Residents Association; STAR (Smallshaw Tenants & Residents Association); Tameside Health Group; Friends of Waterloo Park; and Tameside Health Group (Ashton Central Mosque).

Projects were eligible for funding if they focused on at least one of three key themes: preventing neighbourhood crime; reducing harm and offending; strengthening communities and tackling inequalities.
The Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Helen Bowden, and her Consort opened the event, thanking the volunteers and community groups who work to improve local neighbourhoods.
Councillor Stephen Homer, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, said: “Congratulations to all six groups who were successful in receiving funding and thank you for their incredible work and dedication to improving communities across Tameside.
“It’s inspiring to hear residents and groups come together, share their ideas, and support one another throughout the process. The passion and collaboration shown, particularly in uplifting new groups, truly reflect the strength and kindness of our communities.”
The funding will help the successful organisations continue delivering projects and activities aimed at bringing people together and making a positive difference locally.
