Armed Forces Day returns to Denton with live music, displays and family fun

DENTON’S Victoria Park will once again play host to Tameside’s Armed Forces Day celebrations later this month.

Residents are invited to join a day of entertainment, activities and recognition for the borough’s military community.

The annual event takes place on Saturday, June 27, from 1pm to 4pm and will bring together veterans, serving personnel, cadets, military families and local residents for an afternoon of celebrations.

A packed programme of activities is planned, including live music performances, dance displays from local schools and a variety of free attractions aimed at all ages.

Visitors will be able to try activities including climbing walls, inflatable axe throwing, arts and crafts and face painting, while community groups and support organisations will also be on hand to offer information and advice for veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces.

Refreshments will be available throughout the afternoon at Victoria Park Community Centre.

Armed Forces Day is marching back to Denton for Tameside’s annual salute to the borough’s service personnel past, present and future.

Armed Forces Day is held nationally each year to recognise the contribution made by serving personnel, reservists, veterans, cadets and military families.

Councillor Hugh Roderick, Tameside Council Executive Member for Finance and Resources, and Armed Forces Champion, said: “We’re excited to welcome back such a fantastic community event to recognise and thank our Armed Forces.

“We really encourage residents to come down to what is always a great day, the teams do a fantastic job organising activities and entertainment for all generations to enjoy.”

Veterans living in Tameside can also register with the Tameside Armed Services Community (TASC) to receive information about future events and support services available across the borough.

The celebrations are expected to attract hundreds of people from across Tameside and beyond, continuing a tradition that has become a popular fixture in the borough’s community calendar.

Anyone planning to attend is advised that parking around Victoria Park is limited, with the nearest pay-and-display car park located on Queen Street.
