‘Lost’ 1970s folk album to haunt Tameside stage in eerie live launch show

A MYSTERIOUS “lost” folk album, supposedly recorded during the scorching summer of 1976, is set to come back to life in Audenshaw.

Guide Bridge Theatre will host Dust in the Sun on Friday, June 5 – an atmospheric live performance blending music and storytelling, inspired by the fictional discovery of a long-forgotten Welsh folk record.

The show centres around the tale of an album recorded in the remote village of Llanddewi Brefi, during the infamous drought of 1976, before disappearing when the record label collapsed and the master tapes were lost.

Now, nearly 50 years later, the music has resurfaced – alongside a companion novel exploring the mysterious and increasingly unsettling story behind its creation.

Bringing the project to the stage is acclaimed folk musician Jon Loomes, best known for his work with BBC Folk Award-nominated band Pilgrims’ Way and his solo album Fearful Symmetry.

The performance promises a mix of live folk music, spoken-word storytelling and vintage 1970s folk revival influences, creating what organisers describe as a haunting blend of music, memory and myth.

Rather than a traditional concert, audiences can expect an immersive theatrical experience where songs from the “lost” album are interwoven with readings from the novel, gradually revealing the darker story surrounding the recording sessions.

The event takes place at Guide Bridge Theatre on Audenshaw Road, with doors opening at 6.45pm ahead of a 7.30pm start.

Tickets, priced between £8 and £15, are available to book online here.
