Mossley showcase to celebrate Tameside’s indie music scene

A LIVE music showcase celebrating some of Tameside’s most exciting alternative bands is set to return to Mossley.

In Our Backyard 3 will take over The Vale on Saturday, June 20, bringing together a packed line-up of post-punk, indie and experimental acts from across the borough.

Among the headline names are Tameside punk quartet Loose Articles, whose sound blends sharp social commentary with dancefloor-ready energy. The band are described as specialising in “discordant, hypnotic repetition, tales of nights out, and radical politics”.

Gaol Bird

The event will also feature Mossley post-punk outfit Gaol Bird, fronted by former Cabbage singer Lee Wilson Rabello. The group’s music has been described as a “vitriolic array of human emotions for cathartic release”.

Saddleworth dream-pop band Shelf are also on the bill, bringing what organisers call a “hypnotic mixture of guitar based dream pop set, warm layers of ethereal vocals, set against a pulsing wall of sound”.

Meanwhile, Stepford Wives will add a mix of post-punk tension, grunge and melodic indie influences to the night. Known for immersive live performances, the band’s songs focus on “pressure, endurance and emotional honesty”.

Experimental artist plus44Kaligula will also perform alongside genre-blending favourites Sugar Crease, whose sold-out local shows have helped build a growing following across the area.

Shelf

Music throughout the evening will continue with DJ sets from Jason Rushton of The Snug Coffee House.

The standing event runs from 6pm until 11pm, with music continuing until midnight. It is open to those aged 14 and over, although under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Tickets are priced at £15, with a limited number of pay-as-you-feel tickets also available through The Vale.
