Cannabis farm discovered during police raid in Ashton

The plants that were uncovered in Ashton and will now be seized by police

POLICE uncovered a cannabis grow and an illegal electricity connection after executing a warrant at a property in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Officers carried out the raid at an address on Whitelands Road, where a number of cannabis plants were discovered.

A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police said the plants were seized and taken to a police station, where they will be destroyed.

The borough’s A Relief Neighbourhood Policing Team also found evidence of electricity abstraction – where power is illegally diverted or bypassed, a practice often linked to cannabis cultivation and considered highly dangerous due to fire risks.

The force said the warrant forms part of ongoing efforts to tackle drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour across Tameside.

Anyone with concerns about suspected drug activity in their area is encouraged to report it to police.
