WORKERS from companies based at Ashton Old Baths swapped desks for litter pickers as they joined forces to help clean up part of Ashton-under-Lyne.
Staff from the digital business hub spent their lunch break tackling rubbish around the St Peter’s area recently, working alongside Tameside Council and its Portland Basin Litter Hub initiative.
Armed with hi-vis jackets, litter pickers and black bags provided through the scheme, teams from across the Stamford Street West site collected litter while spending time together outside the office.

It was not only about improving the area but also strengthening relationships between businesses based at the hub and giving something back to the community around them.
The litter hubs, which are based in community spaces across the borough, allow residents, schools, businesses and community groups to borrow equipment free of charge for organised clean-ups. Collected rubbish is then removed and disposed of by the council.
Julian Jackson, Strategic Director of Housing, Environment and Estates at Tameside Council, said: “It’s incredible to see the local business community working with us to tidy and take care of local areas.
“Thank you to the Ashton Old Baths team for your hard work in ensuring we can be proud of where we live.
“I really encourage other businesses, community groups, and individuals to get on board and help us look after our neighbourhoods. Our street cleaning teams work hard every day, but we can all play a part in keeping our streets free from litter.”
The clean-up forms part of the council’s Our Streets campaign, which encourages residents and organisations to take shared responsibility for keeping neighbourhoods clean and welcoming.
