THE SEARCH is officially on for someone to lead Hattersley into its next stage after the area was awarded £20 million of investment.
Lucy Powell, deputy leader of the Labour Party, told The Correspondent how it would be better if the head of the board responsible for deciding how the Pride in Place money should be spent is non-political.
Now applications are being sought for a chair of the new neighbourhood board
Tameside Council is co-ordinating the search for the voluntary position, with expressions of interest needed by Sunday, May 10.
Board members who live, work, or have strong links to the area are also encouraged to put themselves forward.
After the money, which will be given across 10 years, was awarded by the government scheme, a way forward of how it should be used is wanted.
And three criteria have been set for the panel – that it is community‑led, it reflects a wide range of local voices and is fair, inclusive and transparent.
People looking to take part do not need previous board experience, just local knowledge, commitment and a desire to help Hattersley thrive.
Anyone interested in becoming chair, would like further information on what the role involves or who would like to be considered as a board member is asked to register their interest by emailing hattersleypipp@tameside.gov.uk.
