Hyde businessman and former hockey player helping patient receive artificial legs

A HYDE businessman and philanthropist – who is a former international hockey player – is helping a patient receive artificial legs.

Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, founder and chairman of the Just Help Foundation, has successfully raised significant funds to support Kamal Uddin in Sylhet, Bangladesh.

Over the past three weeks, an online fundraising campaign was conducted exclusively among the members of the foundation after it received an urgent appeal about the 50-year-old, who has lost both of his limbs.

Hyde businessman and philanthropist Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, a former international hockey player,  is helping a patient receive artificial legs in Bangladesh.

Coming from a family of six, none of whom are capable of earning a living due to severe financial hardship and physical limitations, Mr Uddin and his relatives have been surviving mainly through begging and occasional assistance from compassionate individuals.

Without that, it has become nearly impossible for them to maintain even the most basic living conditions.

But after receiving the request, Mr Rahman contacted the victim directly through a WhatsApp video call to verify the situation.

And after speaking with the patient and understanding the severity of his condition, he assured him of support from the foundation.

Medical experts have advised Mr Uddin requires artificial limbs and the estimated cost for fitting prosthetic legs is approximately £3,000.

An appeal has been made to raise further funds to help Kamal Uddin.

However, even though the foundation has raised £2,020, which will be sent to Bangladesh and handed over directly to the patient to begin the treatment process, an additional £980 is still required to fully cover the cost of the prosthetic limbs.

So the foundation has made a renewed appeal to kind-hearted donors and well-wishers to come forward and support the cause.

Mr Rahman, familiar as owner of Adnan’s restaurant, on Market Street, said: “The leadership of the Just Help Foundation has expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has already contributed to the campaign and helped bring hope to a family in desperate need.

“But more is needed.”
