Rotary support helping Dementia Warriors make a difference in Dukinfield

A LOCAL Rotary club is continuing its support for a community group helping people living with dementia and their families.

Members of Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club have been backing the Dementia Warriors group, which meets every Monday afternoon at Dukinfield Moravian Church.

The group provides a safe and welcoming space for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, along with their families and carers, offering vital social contact and support.

Regular sessions include entertainment and activities designed to encourage both mental and physical stimulation, alongside organised outings and seasonal celebrations such as Easter and Christmas parties.

Rotary first became involved after Dementia Warriors approached the club for support through its annual Dragon’s Den initiative.

Since then, members have played an active role in supporting the group, including providing live music sessions.

Music is widely recognised for its ability to stimulate memory and improve wellbeing for those living with dementia.

Rotary member Danny Power described the experience as one of the most rewarding he and his wife, Christine, had ever taken part in. He recalled how members of the group responded to familiar tunes by singing along and even dancing.

Following an initial £500 donation in 2025, the club has now increased its support to £600 to help ensure the group can continue its work.

The donation was warmly received by members, with spokesperson Dorothy expressing heartfelt thanks and asking for their appreciation to be passed on to the wider Rotary club.

Rotary members say supporting initiatives like Dementia Warriors reflects the core values of the organisation, helping to make a meaningful difference in the local community.
