Easter cheer beats stormy weather at Ashton club

BLUSTERY conditions failed to dampen spirits at Waterloo and Taunton Conservative Club in Ashton-under-Lyne, where members turned out in force for a weekend of Easter celebrations.

The inclement weather brought by Storm Dave meant plans to officially open the club’s crown green had to be shelved. But that didn’t stop a lively turnout, with plenty still heading down to enjoy the festivities.

Among those attending the Oldham Road venue was Hurst Cross Conservative council candidate Rachel Taylor, who launched the club’s Easter hamper draw as part of the weekend’s events.

Entertainment came from Dukinfield-based singer Macy Evans, while regular John’s Easter quiz kept members busy testing their knowledge.

Younger visitors were also kept entertained with a children’s colouring competition. Seven-year-old Darcy took top prize, winning an Easter chick and a Smarties Easter egg.

Despite the weather disruption, the event proved a hit with members, offering a welcome dose of community spirit over the bank holiday weekend.
