New children’s home ‘Meadow View’ to be built in Hyde

A NEW purpose-built children’s home is set to be developed in Hyde, providing vital support for some of the borough’s most vulnerable young people.

Named Meadow View, the facility will offer a safe and nurturing environment for children with disabilities who require short stay breaks or long-term residential care.

It will replace an existing home in Dukinfield, ensuring access to modern, high-quality accommodation tailored to individual needs.

The project is being jointly funded by Tameside Council and the Department for Education, with construction set to be delivered by John Southworth Builders.

The Wilkinson Cowan Partnership will act as Contract Administrator.

Work is expected to begin towards the end of March 2026, with completion scheduled for March 2027.

The home is due to open the following month and will provide places for up to nine local children and young people across two units.

As part of the development, the council says it will work closely with children, families and young people to help shape the design of the home.

Plans include opportunities to contribute to shared spaces such as accessible planted beds and a sensory garden.

Councillor Teresa Smith, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Children’s and Families, said:

“It’s wonderful that we are able to build a brand-new home for our children and young people and take both you and them on this journey with us as it’s being built.

“Providing a safe, happy and nurturing place they can call home is so important, and this project shows our continued commitment to putting children and families at the heart of everything we do.”
