YOUNG people are being invited to take centre stage as Stalybridge prepares to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the town’s much-loved carnival.
Organisers are searching for this year’s Carnival Queens ahead of the big day on Sunday, June 28, when thousands are expected to line the streets for the golden anniversary parade.
Applications are now open across five age categories: Petal (aged 4 to 5); Rosebud (aged 5 to 8); Princess (aged 8 to 10); Junior Queen (aged 10 to 14); and Queen (aged 14+).
The deadline to apply is Friday, April 17, 2026.
Jackie Taylor, Queen’s Secretary, said: “Our Carnival Queens take a prominent position in the parade as it winds its way around the town centre and are seen by over 5,000 visitors lining the route, as well as being formally crowned in Cheetham Park after the parade.”
As part of this year’s anniversary celebrations, organisers are also planning a special reunion moment.
Former Carnival Queens are being invited to take part in a dedicated float during the parade, giving past title holders the chance to be part of the milestone event. Those wishing to join are asked to make contact ahead of the day.
Adding to the anniversary spectacle will be a collaboration with Global Grooves, the internationally recognised carnival arts group based in nearby Mossley, known for their large-scale, high-energy parade performances.
