TAMESIDE Rotary is inviting folk to don something purple and enjoy a curry night in aid of the global fight to eradicate polio.
The group will host a special “Wear Purple” Curry Evening on Tuesday, March 24.
It will take place from 7pm to 9pm at Sheikh’s Restaurant on St Alban’s Avenue in Ashton-under-Lyne, opposite Ashton Rugby Club.
Guests will enjoy a three-course meal while raising funds for Rotary International’s global End Polio Now campaign. Entertainment on the evening will be provided by Northern comedy folk performer Rob Mason.
The campaign aims to finally eradicate polio worldwide. At the end of the 1980s, more than 350,000 children were paralysed by the disease every year. Thanks to the efforts of Rotary and its partners, cases have since fallen by 99.9 per cent.
However, campaigners warn that failure to completely eradicate the virus could see as many as 200,000 new cases worldwide each year within a decade.
The event’s purple theme reflects a symbol used during vaccination programmes, where a purple dye is applied to the finger of a child who has been immunised to prevent duplicate doses.
Guests attending the evening are encouraged to wear something purple in recognition of the dye and the ongoing global immunisation effort.
Tickets cost £30 per person, which includes a three-course meal. Booking is essential and can be made by emailing info@tamesiderotary.onmicrosoft.com or by sending a message via the Tameside Rotary Facebook page.
Tameside Rotary is a group of local volunteers who raise funds to support both community projects and international charitable causes.
