A MEN’S community group from Ashton-under-Lyne enjoyed an afternoon of friendly competition and home-cooked food after being welcomed at a long-standing local club.
Gabriel’s Guys, a social group linked to St Gabriel’s Church and led by Steve Crompton, spent the day at Waterloo and Taunton Conservative Club.
They took part in indoor games as part of their regular programme of activities.
Snooker cues were chalked, darts were thrown and pool balls lined up, while some members tried their hand at the less familiar indoor table bowls.

The sessions are designed to help men build friendships and confidence through relaxed social settings.
Club chairman Leon Tamcken said: “It was a pleasure to host Steve and his guys, giving them a chance to make friends and improve their confidence in a safe setting.”
Members were also treated to refreshments prepared by club stewardess Caroline Thistleton, including cheese and onion pie with beans for lunch.
The club has thanked Stephen Radcliffe, Albert Anderson and Peter Grimes for volunteering their time to help run the games and support the group on the day.
Gabriel’s Guys meets regularly and is keen to hear from other Tameside businesses willing to offer an outing or activity session.
Anyone able to help can contact Steve Crompton on 07950 458 842 or find further details via St Gabriel’s Church online.
