Audenshaw Care Home Manager highly commended for inspirational journey

A DEDICATED care home manager from Audenshaw has been recognised with an award celebrating her remarkable career journey and commitment to lifelong learning.

Charlotte Heathcote, Home Manager at Guide Lane Care Home, saw her work in adult social care rewarded with highly commended in the ‘Inspirational Individual Award’ at the Lifetime Learning Awards.

Aged just 33, Charlotte’s career in adult social care spans more than a decade. She began working as a Care Assistant in 2010 and has progressed through a series of qualifications, completing Level 2 and Level 3 diplomas in Health and Social Care before achieving a Level 5 Leader in Adult Care apprenticeship, which she passed with distinction in 2025.

Through her apprenticeship, Charlotte developed the leadership, operational and regulatory skills required to manage complex care services.

Since stepping into the role of Home Manager at Guide Lane Care Home in March 2025, She has driven rapid and sustained improvements.

In a matter of months, the home progressed from an initial internal Quality Inspection rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ across all areas, with one area achieving an ‘Outstanding’ rating for empowering colleagues and the people they care for.

Charlotte credits the ongoing support of her employer, family and Learning Coaches for helping her navigate challenges and continue to develop professionally.

She said: “My career in care has always been driven by a desire to learn and grow, and completing my apprenticeship gave me the confidence and skills to progress into a leadership role.

“This award means a great deal to me and I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received and hope my journey encourages others to believe in what they can achieve.”

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2026, Charlotte’s story highlights the transformative impact apprenticeships can have, opening doors to career progression and personal development within the adult care sector.
