How a Tameside creative has rebuilt two years after disaster struck

A DEVASTATING warehouse fire that could have ended a Tameside creative business has instead become the starting point for a comeback story.

This month marks two years since a blaze tore through the Hyde warehouse of Visual Architects, an immersive design and experiential production studio known for creating large-scale sets, props and environments.

The blaze left Visual Architects with a massive rebuild to undertake

The 2024 fire destroyed machinery, custom fabrication work, tools, materials and projects that were already under way.

For a company whose work depends on physical builds and specialist equipment, the damage was more than cosmetic – it struck at the heart of its day-to-day operations and put ongoing client work in jeopardy.

In the days after the fire, the business faced the immediate challenge of how to keep trading while replacing production capacity, storage space and essential systems. Rather than shut down, the team continued delivering projects while rebuilding behind the scenes.

Over the following two years, the company restored its fabrication facilities, reworked internal systems and invested in new production methods, including more modular and reusable scenic elements. It has also grown its workforce across creative, technical and project management roles.

During that period, Visual Architects has delivered several large-scale immersive projects, won industry awards and secured new commissions – a turnaround that contrasts sharply with the uncertainty it faced immediately after the fire.

The company is now planning its next step of a shift towards a group structure made up of three specialist businesses. Leaders say the change is aimed at improving long-term stability and allowing different parts of the operation to scale more easily.

CEO and Creative Director Lefteris Angelidis says the experience forced the company to rethink how it operates.

“What happened only two years ago now feels like a lifetime ago – not because we’ve forgotten it, but because we didn’t dwell on it. The morning after the fire, we were straight back in business. Nothing stopped.

“The fire was one of the most challenging moments we’ve ever faced. Overnight, we lost years of work, materials and infrastructure, but what we didn’t lose was our team, our creativity or our belief in what we were building. Rebuilding forced us to rethink everything -how we operate, how we scale, and how we protect the future of the business.

“That same energy, drive and belief is what’s taken us to where we are today, and it’s the same mindset that will push us forward as we build what comes next in 2026. With the recruitment of our new directors, we’re now entering a new stage- streamlining the company and evolving into a group structure built for long-term growth.

“Two years on, we’re not just back on our feet; we’re stronger, more focused and more ambitious than ever. This anniversary is a reminder of what resilience can unlock.”

Visual Architects, now based in Denton, plans to host an event on March 20 to reflect on the past two years and outline its future direction.
