Liberal Democrats’ Denton by-election candidate vows to combat ‘divisive politics’

THE WOMAN chosen by the Liberal Democrats to stand in the Gorton and Denton by-election has been backed to end a ‘soap opera.’

Jackie Pearcey has pledged to champion what she says are local issues that matter most to residents, including fixing the NHS and tackling the cost of living.

Having lived in Gorton for decades, she came second in the Gorton and Abbey Hey ward election for Manchester City Council in 2024 and ran for parliament in 2019.

And as much focus is cast on Labour – after the blocking of Andy Burnham as a candidate – and Reform UK’s campaign for Matt Goodwin, the party says: “She is determined to bring real change for the residents of Gorton and Denton who deserve so much better than this endless soap opera.

“The Labour government promised change but is delivering the same old chaos as the Conservatives – too busy fighting for the keys to Number 10 instead of fixing the NHS or tackling the cost of living.

“People in Gorton and Denton and across the country deserve so much better than this.”

Jackie Pearcey said: “I’m thrilled to have been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate for the constituency where I live.

“Voters in Gorton and Denton deserve so much more than the failing Labour government or the divisive politics of Reform UK.

“We have a golden opportunity to champion the issues that matter most to people – the cost of living, fixing the NHS and supporting our local high streets and businesses.

“I’ve got a proven track record of delivering for residents and I’ll continue to fight for the people of Gorton and Denton through this election and beyond.”
