Denton’s Green Party candidate says by-election is ‘hope v hate’

THE GREEN Party candidate looking to take the Gorton and Denton by-election has made the equation simple – hope v hate.

Trafford Councillor Hannah Spencer has been picked as the person looking to lead the group to success.

And the 34-year-old plumber, who believes her day job may come in handy, is in no doubt what the people have to choose from.

Cllr Spencer said: “This is a crucial by-election. The choice is clear – Green v Reform. Hope v hate.

“I didn’t grow up wanting to be a politician. I’m a plumber. I fix homes for a living.

“I’m not just Reform’s worst nightmare, but my candidacy will give the entire Westminster establishment a headache because they can’t put me in a box. I’m not the son of a toolmaker, I’m an everyday tool user.

“As a plumber I know you have to work through things methodically, root out the cause of the blockage, ask the right questions, use the right tools, ask for advice, and make the decision.

“That’s what I will do as your MP – using the evidence, speaking to the people who really know the facts – making the right decisions.

“I know this area well, and people here know me. I’ll relentlessly pound pavements and the airwaves with the message that Greens will cut the cost of living and expose Britain’s role in the Gaza genocide.

“I know how we win this – let’s do it together. The party are going to throw the kitchen sink at this by-election, so we’re going to need a plumber.

“I work as a plumber, something I’ve done since leaving education at 16. I’m training to become a plasterer too. I’ve lived in the constituency and still work here. So, I know the issues and what people want to change.

“Only the Green Party can stop Reform in this by election.

“We know Labour’s vote is in free fall. They have banned their own Mayor from standing. The Labour government has abandoned voters in Gorton and Denton and failed to tackle the cost-of-living crisis.

“I will be meeting voters day and night for these next few, short weeks of this vital campaign making the case for hope.

“Reform have chosen a candidate that will divide our community. He doesn’t even think many of the people who live and work here are even British.

“I will bring the people of Gorton and Denton together.”

And on Reform UK’s candidate, Matt Goodwin, who has been pushing his Manchester roots, she added: “That’s a bit rich. I’ve never see him in Asda when I’m doing my big shop.”

Green Party leader Zack Polanski said: “Hannah Spencer will be a brilliant MP for the people of Gorton and Denton.

“I’m a Mancunian and know when someone genuinely wants to roll up their sleeves and work for the community. Hannah is that person.

“We have just days to stop Reform and make hope normal again.”
