LOCAL residents are being advised to plan ahead as a new phase of roadworks gets under way on the A57.
It will bring temporary traffic lights and lane closures at key locations over the coming weeks.
Night-time traffic lights have been in place on Hyde Road for two weeks and are expected to remain until approximately Monday, January 26. The works are overnight between 7pm and 6am, with two-way temporary lights operating near the BP garage.
Further disruption is expected later in January when works move to Woolley Bridge. From January 26 until around February 16, two-way traffic lights will be in operation on the bridge between 9am and 3pm, Monday to Friday only.
Drivers using the M67 junction 4 roundabout will also face restrictions. Single-lane closures on the inner ring of the roundabout are scheduled from January 26 to January 30, running overnight between 8pm and 6am.
During this period, both the A57 Hyde Road and A560 Stockport Road will be reduced to a single lane. Access will be maintained throughout, but delays are expected and motorists are being urged to allow extra time for their journeys.
The works form part of the wider £228 million A57 Link Roads scheme, a major infrastructure project designed to ease congestion on one of the main routes between Manchester and Sheffield.
The scheme includes the construction of a new dual carriageway from the end of the M67 through a Mottram underpass to the A57 east of Back Moor, alongside a single carriageway linking Mottram Moor to Woolley Bridge.
Two new junctions – Mottram Moor Junction and Woolley Bridge Junction – are also planned, as well as improvements to the existing M67 junction 4.
Five new structures will be delivered as part of the project, including the Roe Cross Road Overbridge, the Mottram Underpass and the River Etherow Bridge.
The full scheme is currently scheduled for completion in 2028.
