A BEREAVEMENT awareness day is returning later this month, offering local people a place to talk, listen or simply be among others who understand the experience of loss.
Held in Stalybridge, it will be open to anyone who has experienced loss at any point in their life and the event aims to challenge the idea that grief has a timeline or a “right” way to feel.
Together Through Loss will take place at Academy HQ on Grosvenor Street on Thursday, January 30, running from midday to 7pm.

The day is jointly organised by Tameside Council, Empowered to Thrive CIC, Finding Rainbows and Mourning Brew, with support from Anthony Barton Funeral Service.
Visitors will be able to hear from speakers, speak informally with support organisations and explore the help available locally for people living with grief.
Organisers say the free event is about reassurance as much as information – reminding people that they are not alone, that there is no expectation to “be okay,” and that grief can resurface at any stage of life.
Together Through Loss follows the success of the ‘Never Walk Alone’ bereavement event, held in November 2024, and continues its message of compassion and openness around loss.
A wide range of organisations will be present on the day, including The Anthony Seddon Fund, Willow Wood Hospice, The Carers Centre, Epseminars, Jigsaw Homes wellbeing support, and the Tameside Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group.
Those attending can engage in whatever way feels right for them – sharing their story, listening quietly, or spending time in a supportive environment with people who understand.
Councillor Taf Sharif, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Health and Equalities, said: “Grief affects every one of us at some point in our lives, yet it can often feel isolating or difficult to talk about. Together Through Loss is about reminding people that support is available, their feelings are valid, and they don’t have to navigate loss alone.
“I’m grateful to everyone involved for creating a warm and inclusive space for our residents.”
