THE FUTURE of a popular Mossley pub is at the centre of uncertainty after it was placed up for sale.
Many people who frequent the Tollemache Arms, on Manchester Road, have been drinking there for more than 50 years.
But fears their community hub will be closed, leaving several people facing having nowhere to go, have raised after it was placed on the market by brewery Robinson’s on a freehold basis for £175,000 plus VAT.

And agents Fleurets North West admit it may be targeted by a developer looking to use the plot for a different use.
Divisional Director Tim Martin said: “The Tollemache Arms has historically traded as a wet led community local.
“An experienced operator may see an opportunity to further develop the business as a freehold free house.
“Alternatively, the property may appeal to purchasers considering potential alternative uses, subject to the necessary consents and planning permissions.”
The Tollemache Arms is described as ‘a two-storey end terrace property spanning approximately 2,798 sq ft.’
Its sales pitch states: “The pub benefits from a beer patio overlooking the canal, with direct access to the towpath, providing an attractive outdoor trading area.
“The ground floor comprises a snug room with a feature fireplace, a main bar lounge and a rear games room with a dedicated darts area.
“The first floor offers private owners’ accommodation, comprising two double bedrooms, one with an en suite shower room, one single bedroom currently used as a dressing room, a lounge, kitchen and family bathroom.
“The basement includes two beer cellars and a storeroom.”
The car park for the Tollemache Arms, which lies across Manchester Road and accommodates about 17 spaces, is also up for sale separately, with an asking price of £130,000 plus VAT.
And The Correspondent understands what happens to the pub and who may take it on is the centre of much discussion among regulars.
