TEENAGERS across Tameside are being invited to get creative and connect with others through a new series of Teen Meet-up Sessions taking place at local libraries.
Hosted at Ashton Library and Droylsden Library, the sessions are designed to give young people a relaxed space to socialise while trying their hand at a range of creative activities.
Funded by Tameside Council and Know Your Neighbourhood, the workshops will run across January, February and March.
Each session will be led by local artist Caroline Coates and will offer hands-on opportunities for teens to create personalised items.
Activities include making custom book covers, producing artwork using graffiti-style lettering, crafting homewares or jewellery from eco resin, and learning screen printing techniques to design their own bags.
The meet-ups take place every second Tuesday of the month, with additional Saturday sessions at Droylsden Library.
Dates include:
- A graffiti canvas session at Droylsden Library on Saturday, January 31.
- A Jesmonite (resin) workshop on Tuesday, February 10.
- Bracelet and keyring making on Tuesday, March 10.
- A screen printing session at Droylsden Library on Saturday, March 28.
Councillor Leanne Feeley, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said: “We want to offer young people a positive space to socialise and try new things. The sessions are free, so I hope as many teens as possible take up the opportunity to come along and try something creative and fun.”
The sessions are open to local teenagers, with libraries hoping the programme will encourage young people to make greater use of community spaces while developing new skills and interests.
