PEOPLE across Tameside are being invited to kick off the new year by trying something new, as Denton Town Twinning hosts a free European food and drink open evening.
It’s open to anyone with an interest in European culture, travel, food – or simply meeting new people locally.
There is no set programme, with visitors encouraged to arrive at any point, sample the food and drink on offer, and enjoy an informal chat.
The relaxed drop-in event will take place on Monday, January 19, from 7pm in central Denton.
Inspired by Denton’s twin towns and wider European traditions, the evening offers a chance to learn more about the town’s long-standing links with France and Germany, meet current members of the twinning association, and find out what getting involved could look like.
Organisers stress that there is no pressure or obligation, with the focus firmly on creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
The event forms part of Denton Town Twinning’s ‘New Year. New Hobby’ campaign, which encourages residents to explore new interests in 2026 – from cultural exchanges and social events to travel opportunities and building international friendships.
Although the event is free, advance registration is required to help organisers plan catering. Free tickets can be booked online via www.linktr.ee/DentonTwinning.
Denton has been twinned with Montigny-le-Bretonneux in France since 1992 and Kierspe in Germany since 2012. The Denton Town Twinning Association organises exchanges, trips and community events aimed at strengthening international connections, and is run entirely through donations and fundraising rather than public funding.
More information about the event and the association can be found at www.linktr.ee/DentonTwinning.
