A FAMILIAR Denton pub has quietly had a glow-up – and regulars at the Dane Bank on Windmill Lane are already feeling the difference.
The popular local has recently undergone a series of changes designed to make the space feel more open, welcoming and better connected, without losing the character that has kept customers coming back for generations.

When the pub was refurbished in 2021, regulars were clear about one thing: the traditional vault bar had to stay just as it was.
It remained a laidback corner for those who liked it that way, while the rest of the pub moved on around it. But as the Dane Bank grew busier and attracted more families and groups of friends, that separation began to show.
Over time, the vault bar became something of an afterthought – quieter, cut off and lacking the warmth found elsewhere in the building. The latest update set out to change that by bringing the old and the new together.
The biggest shift has been structural. A wall has been removed to open up the interior and improve the flow through the pub, while the bar itself has been relocated to a more central position.

Outside, a new front door now acts as the pub’s main entrance, replacing the two side doors that previously split footfall.
While much of the pub was already stylish and well looked after, regulars say the difference is noticeable. The layout now encourages people to move around more easily, creating a livelier atmosphere while still keeping the familiar feel that locals value.
Built during the inter-war years, the Dane Bank retains many of its original features and continues to serve as a community pub.
Owned by Robinsons Brewery, it remains a staple of life in Denton, offering a range of real ales, home-cooked food and a friendly welcome.
