A Tameside mum is celebrating a life-changing transformation after losing more than five and a half stone since joining Slimming World.
Lou B, 41, from Haughton Green, joined her local Slimming World group in July and has already lost an impressive 5 stone 9½ lbs, reaching the Club 10 milestone, losing 10 per cent of her starting weight, within her first 12 weeks.
But Lou says the journey has been about far more than weight loss.
A mum to two daughters aged 18 and 15, Lou admitted she was extremely anxious before attending her first group.
The decision to walk through the door came after a difficult year, following the loss of both her dad and brother to weight-related health issues.
She said:
“I felt extremely anxious walking through the doors but I knew I had to do it for my health and for my girls. After losing my dad and brother last year, I knew it was time to change.
“It wasn’t as bad as I thought. Andrea and the group were so warm and welcoming. Making that decision has been for the better.”
Since joining, Lou says her confidence has steadily grown. Once struggling to leave the house due to anxiety, she is now challenging herself in new ways, including taking the bus home from group instead of a taxi.
“I’m getting a bit more confident in myself,” she added. “Andrea and the Tuesday morning group are so supportive, and the encouragement and motivation you receive is amazing.”
Slimming World consultant Andrea said she was incredibly proud of Lou’s progress, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too.
“Seeing Lou’s confidence grow alongside her weight loss has been amazing,” she said. “Her strength, courage and determination are inspiring, and she’s making such positive changes for herself and her girls.”
Lou’s story is already inspiring others in the group who may be feeling nervous about taking that first step.
