A Christmas toy appeal led by a member of staff at Guide Lane Care Home in Audenshaw has brought together colleagues, residents and the wider community to support local children during the festive season.
The appeal was organised by laundry assistant Tracey Simpson, who set out to help ensure children facing hardship would have gifts to open on Christmas morning. What began as a small idea quickly gathered momentum, with donations coming in from staff, residents’ families, friends of the home and members of the local community.
Guide Lane’s reception area became a festive drop-off point, filling with brand-new toys, games, books and stocking fillers. Donations ranged from cuddly toys and puzzles to dolls, action figures, arts and crafts sets and seasonal treats.

Residents followed the appeal with interest as the collection grew, sharing their own memories of Christmas and enjoying the sense of community created by the initiative.
Tracey said she was overwhelmed by the response and grateful for the generosity shown by so many people, adding that it was important to her that local children felt remembered and supported at Christmas.
Home manager Charlotte Heathcote praised the appeal, saying it had brought people together and reflected the caring values of the home. She said the effort shown by Tracey and everyone who contributed would make a real difference to families in the area.
The donated gifts are being passed on through local partners who support families in need across the community.
