AUDIENCES are being invited to swap polished productions for playful pandemonium in the new year.
A community theatre company will bring a much-loved comedy to Guide Bridge Theatre this January.
Work In Progress Society Theatre Company will be staging “Last Panto in Little Grimley”.
It’s David Tristram’s one-act comedy about a struggling amateur dramatics group whose answer to dwindling audiences and empty coffers is – naturally – to put on a pantomime.
The fictional Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society is down to just four members, with enthusiasm in short supply and money even scarcer.
Chairman Gordon’s plan to save the group quickly descends into chaos as arguments break out over the script, the budget and who is brave enough to don the tights. Add in a questionable pantomime horse and a few clashing egos, and the result is a fast-paced farce packed with classic British humour.
The play will be performed at the Audenshaw Road venue on Friday, January 9, at 7.30pm, and Saturday, January 10, at 2pm and 5pm.
Work In Progress Society is a newly formed community theatre company made up of older actors and storytellers from across the area, united by a shared love of performance and a belief that creativity doesn’t come with an age limit.
The team at Guide Bridge says the production promises plenty of laughs, mishaps and moments that will feel familiar to anyone who has ever been involved in amateur theatre – or sat in the audience watching things unravel.
Tickets are priced at £8, with concessions available at £6.50, and can be booked online at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/gbt/e-zevgqe
