ORGANISATIONS across Tameside are joining forces with the council to challenge violence and harassment faced by women and girls.
The national White Ribbon campaign begins on Tuesday (November 25) and continues with 16 days of action, urging men and boys to rethink attitudes and behaviours that contribute to domestic abuse and everyday sexism.

This year’s theme ‘We Speak Up’ encourages men to call out sexist comments, challenge harmful behaviour and recognise their role as allies.
Across the borough, a wide mix of community groups, clubs and businesses are helping to spread the message.
Pubs and bars will be displaying campaign posters and beer mats as licensing officers include White Ribbon materials in their Operation Nightsafe visits. Sports clubs, gyms, schools, GP practices and dental surgeries are also getting involved.
A significant focus this year is on the experiences of women who run, following research from The University of Manchester which found more than two-thirds of women runners across Greater Manchester and Merseyside have faced abuse. East Cheshire Harriers are among the local supporters backing efforts to make running safer for women.
Football fans will also see the campaign in action, as Curzon Ashton FC is teaming up with domestic abuse specialists Bridges Partnership to host an information stand at their home game against AFC Fylde on Saturday, November 29. Additional information stalls will also be at Clarendon Square shopping centre in Hyde and the Tesco supermarket in Hattersley.
Training sessions for professionals, staff and partner organisations are planned throughout the campaign, covering topics including stalking, harassment and non-fatal strangulation. Male ambassadors from across the council will also be holding briefing sessions to encourage others to speak out against unacceptable behaviour.
Councillor Taf Sharif, Tameside Council Executive Member for Health and Inequalities, said: “As someone who cares deeply about the safety and dignity of every woman and girl in our borough, I’m proud to stand with our partners in supporting White Ribbon 2025.
“Ending violence against women and girls begins with men. With men who speak out, challenge harmful attitudes, and promote respect and equality.
“By calling out everyday behaviours like sexist jokes, catcalling and unwanted staring, we can help prevent the attitudes that lead to more serious violence. Thank you to all our partners for sharing this vital message across Tameside.
“Together, we can create a community where every woman and girl feels safe, respected and free from fear.”
