Reindeer trail brings festive fun to Ashton town centre

Ashton town centre has been taken over by a mischievous herd of runaway reindeer – and families are being encouraged to help track them down.

Ashton Town Team has launched a festive Reindeer Trail after six of Father Christmas’s reindeer “escaped” and hid themselves in shop windows across the town. The trail stretches from Penny Meadow and Market Avenue to Old Street, inviting visitors to follow the clues and spot all six decorations hidden in local businesses.

The trail is part of a wider programme of Christmas activities organised by the Town Team, continuing this Saturday, November 29, with a special visit from Santa and his elf at Ashton Market Hall.

Children can also enjoy free festive crafts in the seating area, led by artist Paul Pickford, who will help them create their own Christmas ornaments. Adding to the atmosphere, young musician Jack Doyle – who made a memorable appearance at Bridge Fest in September – will perform live between 11am and 2pm.

Audenshaw-based company Star Cutouts will also showcase a festive display.

Councillor Bill Fairfoull, Chair of Ashton Town Team, said: “The Reindeer Trail has six reindeers in shop windows across the town centre, so follow the clues – but most importantly, come and support our local traders and businesses in Ashton this Christmas.”

More festive fun is planned throughout December. On December 6, Market Hall visitors can take part in a special “Play Your Cards Right” game, and the Town Team will be giving away Ashton-themed calendars to mark Small Business Saturday. On December 13, the much-loved Mossley Ukulele Group will perform in the Market Hall from 12.30pm to raise funds for Willow Wood Hospice.

The Town Team hopes the trail and events will encourage families to explore Ashton town centre, enjoy the seasonal activities and support local traders during the busy Christmas period.
