A MAN has been jailed for more than eight years after 14 attempted burglaries in Denton.
Darren Townsend was described as a ‘prolific burglar’ following his sentencing at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court on Tuesday, November 17.
After pleading guilty to his offences following an investigation into a burglary and attempted burglary in Ancoats and Denton, the 51-year-old was locked up for eight years and five months.

Townsend’s offences were reported throughout August, including the 14 separate attempted burglaries in Tameside and he was arrested at the end of the month.
Now after the offender, of Carfax Street in the Gorton area of Manchester, has been sentenced, Greater Manchester Police hoped his victims feel justice has been served.
Detective Sergeant Alexandra Smith, of the Tameside Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Townsend is a prolific burglar, and this sentence is reflective of the crimes he has committed.
“The team worked hard to secure the extensive CCTV footage and statements which were crucial in identifying Townsend and securing his conviction.
“I am aware of the impact that Townsend’s crimes have had on the victims of this case and hopefully this sentence will bring them some sense of justice.
“The team are dedicated to thoroughly and robustly dealing with all burglaries and encourage the continued engagement from the public in reporting offences, so people like Townsend can be brought to justice.
