Two Tameside pubs flush with success in national loo awards

TWO Wetherspoon pubs in Tameside have proven they’re a cut above the bog-standard, after scooping top honours again in this year’s Loo of the Year Awards.

The Ash Tree in Ashton-under-Lyne and The Society Rooms in Stalybridge have both earned a platinum plus grading.

It means inspectors deemed their facilities among the cleanest and best-maintained in the country.

The annual awards aim to shine a light on quality “away from home” toilet facilities, with judges making unannounced visits to thousands of venues across the UK.

Toilets are scored on everything from cleanliness and décor to accessibility, hand-washing facilities and overall management. Those falling short aren’t graded at all – proving that earning top marks is no easy… flush.

At The Society Rooms on Grosvenor Street, manager Liza Braddock said staff pride themselves on keeping standards high.

“We are delighted with the grading. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors,” she said.

Awards managing director Becky Wall praised both pubs for their attention to detail.

“The toilets at the two pubs have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained. The pubs deserve their awards,” she said.
