ASHTON-under-Lyne is set for a fright as a nine-day Halloween festival, A Nightmare on Market Avenue, prepares to take over the town with ghostly attractions, live entertainment and eerie decorations.
The event, part of the Streetlife 3 series, runs from Friday, October 24 to Saturday, November 1, transforming Market Avenue and surrounding streets into a Halloween haven filled with themed activities for all ages.
Visitors can expect a packed programme of events, including the Theatre of Screams scare maze inside the former Yorkshire Bank building, nightly Twilight Ghost Hunts at the Metro Majestic Cinema, and daily ghost walks starting from the Moon & Back Bar.
Organisers say the festival aims to create a fun and immersive experience for residents and visitors alike, while supporting local businesses. “We’re bringing Market Avenue to life – or perhaps the afterlife – with something for everyone,” said an event spokesperson.
“From families looking for spooky fun to thrill-seekers wanting a proper scare, Ashton will be buzzing this Halloween.”
Other highlights include free face painting, pumpkin hunts, retro gaming, pop-up cinema screenings, and a flash mob Thriller dance performance by Blaze Dance Academy on Saturday, October 25.
Market Avenue itself will be decorated with props and sets inspired by horror classics such as The Lost Boys, SAW, Halloween, and IT.
The festival will also feature themed bars, live music, and late-night events, including a Mad Monster After Party at Chute Bar. Many local pubs – including Hoppy Days, The Ladysmith and Tapsters – are expected to join in with their own Halloween celebrations.
A Nightmare on Market Avenue is being coordinated by local organisers in collaboration with the Make Ashton Great Again group.
