A MAJOR milestone in Hattersley’s two-decade regeneration story has been celebrated.
Community leaders and housing partners gathered at Birch Lea Park – a new housing development for older residents.
Jonathan Reynolds, MP for Stalybridge and Hyde, and Councillor Eleanor Wills, Leader of Tameside Council, joined representatives from Onward Homes and local partners at the Birch Lane site recently.

Birch Lea Park – which opened in March – features 91 modern apartments designed for people aged 55 and over, combining independent living with access to on-site support and facilities including a cafe and hair and beauty salon.
“The opening of Birch Lea Park is a key milestone in Hattersley’s 20-year regeneration journey, helping older residents stay in their homes longer while freeing up family homes across the borough,” said MP Reynolds at the event.
“I have nothing but thanks for everyone involved for their vision and commitment to inclusive, high-quality housing.”
Guests at the celebration were given a tour of the building and had the chance to meet residents who have already made Birch Lea Park their home.
“Birch Lea Park offers more than just high-quality homes; it is a vibrant community that has been thoughtfully designed to enable residents to thrive,” said Bronwen Rapley, Onward Homes Chief Executive.
“The celebration event was a fantastic opportunity to bring together those local partners who have been instrumental in making Birch Lea Park a reality, demonstrating how by working collaboratively we can make a real difference in our communities.”
