Denton celebrates European day of languages with schools

DENTON has celebrated European Day of Languages by highlighting its international friendships with twin towns in Germany and France.

Marking the annual event on Thursday, September 26, the town came together to promote the benefits of language learning, cultural exchange, and Europe’s rich linguistic diversity.

To mark the occasion, the Denton Town Twinning Association has donated free educational posters about Denton’s international links to every primary and secondary school in the area.

Holly Taylor, vice chair of the association and a local French teacher, said:

“We’re delighted to mark European Day of Languages by sharing Denton’s international friendships with the next generation. Our twinning links open so many doors: new skills, language learning, travel, employment opportunities, and cultural exchange.”

Denton has been twinned with Montigny-le-Bretonneux, near Paris, since 1992, and with Kierspe, near Cologne, since 2012.

The Denton Town Twinning Association is a voluntary, non-profit group that organises cultural activities, exchanges, and events between local residents and its European partners. The organisation is entirely people-powered and relies on donations and community support.
