Pizza Hut confirms closure of Ashton branch

PIZZA Hut has confirmed its restaurant in Ashton-under-Lyne will close.

Dozens of sites across the country will shut following a major financial restructuring.

The move comes after Pizza Hut’s UK franchise operator entered administration, with 68 restaurants set to close and about 1,200 jobs at risk nationwide.

And the branch at Snipe Retail Park – a long-standing fixture – is among those affected, ending years of service to local diners and families.

The venue has previously been subject to redevelopment plans, with proposals to demolish part of the site first revealed in 2021, however those were later rejected.

Pizza Hut blamed rising costs, changing dining habits and a drop in footfall for the decision, saying it was focusing on takeaway and delivery operations instead of dine-in restaurants.

In a statement, the company said it is, ‘working hard to ensure team members are supported through the transition,’ and that efforts were being made to, ‘protect as many jobs as possible.’

No exact closing date for the Ashton restaurant has been announced.
