THE first details of Hyde legend Ricky Hatton’s funeral have been shared by his family.
Hyde-based funeral director Frank Massey and Son Ltd has released the arrangements, which will give fans the chance to say goodbye during Ricky’s final journey.
A service of thanksgiving for Ricky’s life will take place at Manchester Cathedral on Friday, October 10, at midday.

While the ceremony itself will be by invitation only, members of the public will be able to line the streets as the funeral procession makes its way to the cathedral.
The exact route will be shared closer to the day.
It comes almost two weeks after the former world champion boxer was found dead at his home in Gee Cross on Sunday, September 14, at the age of 46.
The news of the death of one of Tameside’s most celebrated sporting icons sent shockwaves across the world of sport and beyond.
Tributes poured in and many flowers were laid both at his home on Bowlacre Road and the gym he set up on Market Street in Hyde.
Tameside Council also opened a book of condolence at Hyde Town Hall – as well as an online version – for people to pay their respects.
‘He had a heart as big as his smile’
In an emotional statement, Ricky’s family said they felt he was in a ‘good place’ before he died and that he ‘never forgot where he came from’.
They added: “Richard was so much more than a world champion. To us, he was simply ‘Richard’ – our son. A loving father, grandfather and brother, and a true friend to many.
“He had a heart as big as his smile, and his kindness, humour and loyalty touched everyone who was lucky enough to know him.
“To the wider world, Richard will always be remembered as one of boxing’s greatest champions – a man who gave everything inside the ring and wore his heart on his sleeve outside of it.”
Gym’s tribute to Ricky
Before the funeral, Ricky’s own Hatton Health and Fitness gym will host a special memorial event for the community.
The gym, which Ricky founded in 2009 and launched alongside Muhammad Ali, has invited people to gather for a minute’s silence and balloon release on Sunday, September 28, at 7pm. Both members and non-members are welcome.
Paying tribute, the gym described Ricky as ‘much more than a world-class fighter and exceptional trainer’.
They added: “He was a remarkable person who inspired countless individuals. His influence reached far beyond Hyde and the local community, touching the lives of millions. Everyone here is devastated by this loss but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those he motivated, mentored and uplifted.”
